Working across all departments, the team supports the strategic and operational delivery of a range of safety, security resiliency services to create an inclusive, enabling, and empowering culture of security risk management.The Global Security Officer? sits within the Open Society Foundations Global Safety, Security and Resilience team. Reporting to the Associate Director, Security Operations. This new role will be part of a globally dispersed team leading, delivering, and advising a range of our safety and security services across the organization with a primary focus on supporting the safety and security of our staff, in the pursuit of Open Society's objectives. As a Global Safety and Security Officer you will help embed of safety and security standards and best practice for our staff and assets, use internal and external sources to identify, assess and mitigate threats to employees to empower and enable OSFs mission and further develop and promote a proactive and inclusive security culture.Designing, developing, and implementing processes and procedures in line with our global policy and standards calibrated for the relevant contexts the successful candidate may have extensive experience within a certain geography but is expected to leverage that to be an advisory partner, implementer and resource in all matters of operational security globally.Key ResponsibilitiesAs a Global Security Officer at Open Society, you will:Deliver operational security support across our global footprint.Assist in the design, development and implementation of security related operating procedures processes, templates, and frameworks across the span of our services and that align with the security strategy.Monitor the security situation in locations of significance to Open Society and communicate relevant information to stakeholders.Provide security support, briefings, and guidance to staff.Provide initial incident response guidance and partnership for Open Society departments as required.Contribute to the development and delivery of internal security training programs.Support wider global safety, security, and resilience team activities such as our workplace security program as needed.Work to ensure an integrated approach to security risk management at Open SocietyPromote a common understanding and culture around security at Open SocietyPeople Responsibilities - No Direct Reports. Key internal relationshipsAssociate Director, Security Operations; Global Safety and Security team;Opportunity teams, Global Operations; Staff across all geographiesKey external relationshipsPeer networks, vendorsQualificationsA level of education that when combined with your professional experience will adequately show you have the capability to perform the key responsibilities and contribute to organizational success.Desirable:Recognized qualifications in security risk managementRecognized qualifications in health and safety managementExperience Essential:Substantial, relevant experience of physical security and risk management with practical experience working across a global footprint in high risk and complex operating environments.An ability to leverage regional expertise to a global facing role.A strong network of relevant security contacts and resourcesKnowledge of global security and geo-political trendsDemonstrable familiarity in designing, developing, and implementing contextually relevant and appropriate operational safety and security plans, procedures and processes.Experience in designing and delivering safety and security trainings.Experience in managing security related incidents.Desirable:Experience in working with organizations with comparable threat landscapes such as: philanthropic foundations, human rights and civil society organizations or the media sector.Experience working in/on other regions that Open Society works inExperience with technical safety and security systemsCompetenciesFunctional Competencies:Knowledge of global security and geo-political trendsDemonstrable familiarity in designing, developing contextually relevant security guidance, plans, processes, and protocols in line with global standards and frameworks.Experience in delivering briefings and trainings.Experience in managing security related incidents.Personal Competencies:Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and the ability to distil security information for internal and external consumption is required.Strong communications and relationship building skills; effective at building trust and confidence.Ability to manage competing priorities and to work under pressure, in a continuously changing environment.Commitment to continuous learning and growth in the areas of diversity, equity, inclusion, antiracism, and social justiceCommitment to listening and working with humility; ways of working that are respectful to all people; and that support space and voice for all diverse perspectives in our workplace.Languages:An excellent knowledge of English is essential.
