Job Overview Embarking on a career in the culinary world can be a thrilling yet challenging journey. Among the various positions within a professional kitchen, the role of a Commis Chef emerges as an excellent starting point. As a Commis Chef, you will be part of the kitchen team who are responsible for making the kitchen function smoothly. While the tasks may initially be basic, such as prep work and cleaning, the position is designed to equip you as an aspiring chef with the necessary knowledge and skills in cooking, food preparation, kitchen hygiene, and teamwork. To be successful as a Commis Chef, you should demonstrate excellent organizational skills and ensure that all duties are completed in a timely manner. Ultimately, an outstanding Commis Chef should be able to follow all instructions and comply with food health and safety regulations. Duties and Responsibilities Prepare and service all food items for a la carte and or buffet menus according to hotel recipes and standards Have full knowledge of all menu items, daily features and promotions Actively share ideas, opinions and suggestions in daily shift briefings Preparing meal ingredients, which includes seasoning of different meats as well as washing, peeling, and chopping vegetables and fruits Maintain proper rotation of product in all chillers to minimize wastage/spoilage Receiving deliveries and verifying that all ordered items have been delivered and are of good quality Taking inventory of kitchen supplies and notifying the supervisor of low or depleted supplies Plating and presenting meal items as per instructions Ensure storeroom requisitions are accurate Requirements, Skills & Abilities Proven commercial kitchen experience Sound knowledge of food health and safety regulations Ability to stand for extended periods Ability to work under pressure Excellent organizational skills Effective communication skills Hotel Management/ Culinary Certificate or equivalent Experience in a 4/5* hotel Powered by JazzHR
