As a Design Engineer, you will play a vital role in the planning, designing, and implementing water infrastructure projects. You will ensure the efficient and sustainable management of water resources, including treatment, distribution, and wastewater systems. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, project management skills, and a commitment to environmental stewardship.
Responsibilities
Project Planning and Design: Collaborate with clients, government agencies, and stakeholders to identify project objectives and requirements. Develop detailed engineering designs for water supply, treatment, distribution, and wastewater systems.
Hydraulic Analysis and Modelling: Utilize hydraulic modelling software to simulate water flow, pressure, and distribution networks. Analyse to optimise system performance, identify potential issues, and recommend solutions.
Water and Irrigation Infrastructure Design: Lead the design and development of water infrastructure projects, including water supply systems, wastewater treatment plants, stormwater management facilities, and hydraulic structures.
Pumping and Distribution Systems: Design pumping stations, pipelines, and distribution networks to efficiently convey and distribute potable water and wastewater.
Stormwater Management: Develop sustainable solutions, such as green infrastructure, detention ponds, and permeable pavements, to mitigate runoff and reduce the risk of urban flooding.
Environmental Impact Assessment: Conduct environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and feasibility studies to evaluate the potential ecological effects of water projects and identify mitigation measures.
Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of local, state, and federal regulations about water quality, environmental protection, and public health. Ensure that projects adhere to regulatory standards and obtain necessary permits and approvals.
Construction Oversight: Provide technical oversight during the construction phase of projects. Collaborate with contractors to ensure that designs are implemented accurately and efficiently. Address any issues or challenges that arise during construction.
Water Quality Management: Develop strategies for monitoring and maintaining water quality throughout the distribution system. Implement measures to address contamination risks and ensure compliance with water quality standards.
Sustainability and Resource Management: Identify water conservation, reuse, and efficiency improvement opportunities. Integrate sustainable practices into project designs to minimise environmental impact and enhance resource resilience.
Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Assess potential risks to water infrastructure, such as floods, droughts, and infrastructure failures. Develop risk management plans and mitigation strategies to enhance system resilience and reliability.
Community Engagement: Engage with community members and stakeholders to gather input, address concerns, and build support for water projects. Communicate project objectives, benefits, and impacts effectively to diverse audiences.
