Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Kitchen Intern to join our culinary team in Nairobi, Kenya. This exciting opportunity offers hands-on experience in a professional kitchen environment, where you will learn and grow under the guidance of experienced chefs.
Assist in the preparation of meals according to standard recipes, ensuring portion control and minimizing waste
Apply necessary precautions related to the hotel's food safety and hygiene standards (HACCP)
Clean and maintain all equipment in the food production area
Attend all briefings, meetings, and training sessions as assigned by management
Support the kitchen team in various tasks, including food prep, plating, and kitchen organization
Learn and practice proper food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures
Collaborate with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations during service
Assist in inventory management and stock rotation
Participate in menu development and recipe testing under chef supervision
Contribute to maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment
Qualifications
Basic culinary training or education in a related field
Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices
Basic knife skills and willingness to learn various kitchen techniques
Ability to work independently as well as in a team
Good physical health and stamina to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment
Strong communication skills in English
Eagerness to learn and positive attitude
Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and consistency
Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays
Basic math skills for recipe conversions and inventory management
Ability to follow instructions and adhere to standard operating procedures
Interest in local and international cuisines
