Job Category 1 Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (Residence and Support Staff) Job Subcategory 1 Estates Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities) 1 Main purpose of job:To safely perform electrical installations, planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance, fault finding, design, construction and inspection & test to Low Voltage (LV) equipment & installations across the British High Commission estate in and around Nairobi and on occasion overseas in accordance with Foreign Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) guidance and standards.Roles and responsibilities:Carry out planned maintenance activities, projects, refurbishments and react to electrical breakdowns or faults in a timely, professional & customer focused manner Execute repairs and works safely and in accordance with the quality standards of the FCO, industry best practice, British standards and Kenyan electrical regulations & requirements where applicable to LV domestic / housing electrical works and light industrial / commercial plant and equipmentTake ownership of electrical projects, repairs and producing technical reports within accurate time frames for completion of worksSafely perform electrical testing and produce electrical installation condition reports or electrical installation certificates as required and on completion of worksLead and mentor colleagues in electrical methods including design, installation, inspection & testLiaise with technical & non-technical colleagues to provide updates on works progress in a suitable language that is understood by all partiesActively contribute to safe working practices and ensure all work is undertaken safely by self and othersIdentify materials required and create work package(s) for refurbishment, improvement, renewal and re-wire to ensure the electrical installation meets the electrical compliance standards of the FCO, the current edition of BS7671, Kenyan electrical regulations & requirements where applicable and any other relevant standard(s)Produce comprehensive bills of materials and estimates of costs for high quality electrical components, labour and materialsDemonstrate continuous improvement in all areas of work to achieve best value for money, safety compliance and standards of buildTypically duties may include: Routine electrical maintenance (LV), electrical design for small projects, electrical construction, test & inspection, undertaking full building re-wires, fault finding, consumer board & distribution board replacement, repairs to installations, installation of circuit accessories, industrial control panel repairs / modification, repairs and replacement to wiring in commercial buildings and special locations (swimming pools etc.) Working at height and outside work may be required on occasion including on high risk plantResources managed (staff and expenditure):On occasion the job holder may be required to supervise contractors Essential qualifications, skills and experience 1 Certificate in electrical installation from a recognised government institution3 years of experience in electrical installation and maintenance workExcellent written and verbal communication skillsKnowledge and experience in low voltage electrical installation inspection and testingMust have knowledge of hand and power toolsHold a current full driving licence and be a safe competent driver (accident free for three years) Desirable qualifications, skills and experience 1 Be familiar with the required Health & Safety standards governing the electrician roleKnowledge to read and understand blue prints Required behaviours 1 Managing a Quality Service, Delivering at Pace, Working Together Application deadline 1 16 April 2024 Grade 1 S1 Type of Position 1 Permanent Working hours per week 1 44 hours Region 1 Africa Country/Territory 1 Kenya Location (City) 1 Nairobi Type of Post 1 British High Commission Number of vacancies 1 1 Salary 1 KES 113,397.73 monthly Start Date 1 1 May 2024 Other benefits and conditions of employment 1 Learning and development opportunities (and any specific training courses to be completed):18th Edition BS7671:2018 requirement for electrical installation
