ASSISTANT AGRICULTURAL OFFICER III - JOB GROUP 11 — ('H') - (4 POSTS)
An officer at this level will be deployed at the ward level either as the ward crops officer, agribusiness officer or Home economics officer.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
All technical matters in the wards;
Collecting and documenting data on farmers in the extension unit including names, gender ratios, soil types, and rainfall, land sizes, different enterprises;
Monitoring and reporting on food situation, agricultural disasters including pests, diseases, flooding, drought, and destruction by wildlife:
Mobilizing farmers and stakeholders for and participating in broad based surveys:
Carrying out individual farm visits:
Implementing tasks allocated by various Sub-county subject matter specialists;
Establishing and organizing demonstrations and field days in collaboration with the farmers and other stakeholders;
Identifying training needs for farmers and farmer groups:
Monitoring the activities/approaches of other extension providers and advising where necessary;
Training farmers and farmers groups on identified training needs;
Working with common interest groups including the vulnerable groups, and individual farmers to develop project proposals for financing;
Acting as a link between the farmers and Research Institufions and stakeholders on information exchange and technology development and transfer;
Monitoring of agricultural activities in the wards; sensitizing the farming Communities on cross cutting issues, gender, youth, HIV/AIDS, environment, advocacy and democracy, human rights;
Management of information desks in the extension units; and Preparation of periodic reports.
REQUIREMENTS FOR APPOINTMENT
A Diploma in either Horticulture, Food Science, Agriculture Economics, Home
Economics, Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agriculture Extension, Agriculture Education or any other relevant and equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
