Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare laboratory equipment and materials for use in class, including setting up experiments and demonstrations;
Create a safe and supportive learning environment that encourages student engagement, curiosity, and exploration in sciences and other disciplines;
Ensure that laboratory equipment and materials are clean, in good working order, and properly stored when not in use;
Support teachers and students during laboratory sessions, including providing guidance on experimental procedures and safety protocols;
Monitor laboratory sessions to ensure that students are following safety guidelines and procedures;
Assist with the development of laboratory manuals, safety guidelines, and other instructional materials;
Maintain records of laboratory inventory, equipment maintenance, and student performance;
Collaborate with the supervisor, teachers and administrators to identify and address any laboratory-related issues or concerns;
Conduct routine maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime;
Order and maintain an inventory of laboratory supplies and materials, such as chemicals, glassware, and specimens;
Develop and implement laboratory safety protocols, including training students and staff on safe laboratory practices, handling of hazardous materials, and emergency response procedures;
Collaborate with teachers to design and implement laboratory experiments and activities that align with curriculum goals and learning objectives;
Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with advancements in laboratory technology and pedagogy;
Provide guidance and support to students and teachers on data analysis and interpretation of laboratory results;
Contribute to the development and implementation of school-wide sustainability initiatives, such as safe disposal of laboratory waste and reduction of energy consumption;
Support the school's accreditation and compliance efforts by maintaining accurate records and documentation of laboratory practices and procedures; and
Any other responsibilities assigned to the jobholder by the supervisor from time to time.
Qualifications
Diploma in Laboratory Technology, Laboratory Sciences, or a related field from a recognized institution.
Minimum 2 years of related experience.
