The Chief Nursing Officer is mandated to maintain clinical and patient-care standards. This includes ensuring that the patients are safe in the hospital and have access to the right medical care. She is also required to offer clinical and administrative leadership to the Nursing unit to ensure safe and excellent quality of Nursing care, efficiency and best possible nursing care according to the set Standard Operating Procedures, ethics and professional standards/ requirements.
KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:
Establish a nursing governance structure by ensuring that care is delivered in a consistent, scientific framework throughout the hospital.
Ensure quality of care, exceeding of patient expectations by identifying system wide nursing quality indicators. Develop Nursing Quality Indicators, analyze and benchmark quality data to determine the overall level of nursing clinical performance.
Establishing a nursing strategic plan that targets quality performance, implementing a care model and monitoring its effectiveness, and simultaneously developing structures and processes that track and trend outcome measures.
Provide strategic direction to the nursing team by establishing goals and clearly defined targets to achieve them.
Evaluating clinical and administrative processes and determining best practices.
Fostering staff development and ensuring the availability of a well-educated nursing workforce to meet the needs of the hospital.
Ensuring that nurses at all levels of the organization remain competent in the care they provide to patients.
Fostering open communication and collaboration with all team members.
Lead the nursing unit in implementation and review of Standard Operating Procedures for the nursing department aimed at providing safe and quality nursing care to patients.
Ensure the nursing department is always ready with supplies and equipment to attend to general and emergency cases e.g. consumables, defibrillators, crash carts etc.
Oversee the efficient admission and discharge of patients in liaison with other departments
Prepare allocation of duties and responsibilities to all nursing staff based on ideal skill mix for quality care
Manage a performance-based culture in the unit that includes evidence based SMART KPIs based on which staff will be periodically evaluated
Oversee nursing operations across all our client branches i.e nursing interviews, on-boarding process, training, uniform, welfare and disciplinaries.
Oversee the shift handover process to ensure it is seamless and Nursing care remains consistently high quality
Provide psychological and physiological support to the patient and relatives.
Oversee the health and safety of patients and staff in the unit to ensure there are no injuries, infections or such related issues
Ensure full and accurate provision and documentation of nursing care along the 5 principles of the Nursing Process.
Bear full responsibility for judicious and efficient use of resources i.e. accurate and timely billing of ward stock drugs and consumables
Manage care for equipment through proper cleaning, storage, per shift check of the inventory and timely reporting and follow up of repair and maintenance of equipment.
Mentor and coach team leaders to ensure smooth running of the unit at all times and succession planning
Hold regular departmental meetings to build teamwork, communicate, identify problems and agree on solutions, evaluate departmental performance etc
Implement and monitor adherence to the standardized hazardous and other waste disposal techniques
Manage data collection and monitoring of identified unit based quality indicators
Participate in or initiate CPR and emergency Codes when necessary.
Plan and organize internal CMEs both departmental and with other disciplines
Lead the Department to achieve local and international quality management standards
In liaison with the registration and admission desk and Consultants, ensure efficient running of Consultants Clinics
Ensure excellent customer relations management to all clients
Progressively improve the turnaround time for admission, discharge, drugs administration
Leveraging on ICT to ensure automation of recording, analysis and reporting to create efficiency and more time for patient care
Cover the Nursing Department on rotational basis in the following areas and submit daily, weekly and reports as required to the Unit Head;
