Duties and responsibilities:
The consultancy is located in the Climate Change and Urban Environment Team, Programme Development Branch of UN-Habitat. The consultancy will involve the following typical main duties leading to the ultimate requested outputs:
Preparation of the roadmap to COP30, including paving the way towards a Multilevel Action and Urbanization Pavilion and fourth Ministerial Meeting on Urbanization and Climate Change at COP30 a. Developing a roadmap towards COP30, including identifying key moments and events towards COP30, working closely across UN-Habitat's teams, including the Brazil office
Develop a concept note that lines out UN-Habitat's presence and role at COP30, including working towards a Multilevel Action and Urbanization Pavilion a Ministerial Meeting on Urbanization and Climate Change, in close collaboration with UN-Habitat teams and external partners
Develop a roadmap and engagement strategy for the Baku Continuity Coalition on Urban, Multilevel and Multisectoral Climate Action, including engagement with external stakeholders on the road to COP30 and city networks
Conceptualization of UN-Habitat's work on Urban content of the NDCs
Develop and conceptualize workshops on how to strengthen the urban content of the NDCs, in collaboration with other partners
Conduct workshops (both in person and online), in collaboration with external partners and UN-Habitat's country and regional offices
Qualifications/special skills
Education Background Minimum advanced university degree (M.A or M.Sc. or equivalent) in relevant field in Social Sciences, International Relations, Public Policy, Urban/Regional Planning, Environment Studies, International Development is required. A first degree with 2 additional years of experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Professional Experience ;A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in Social Sciences, International Relations, Public Policy, Urban/Regional Planning, Environment Studies, International Development or a relevant field is required.
Demonstrated experience in developing and managing projects in a participatory manner is required. Demonstrated research experience related to environmental, or the social dimension of climate change is required.
Experience working with international multi-partner initiatives and projects, demonstrating experience delivering outcomes with diverse set of partners and governments on climate projects and climate/urban policy is desirable. Experience working in/with Small Island Developing States is desirable.
