Why does our mission matter?
There are over 1.3 billion Africans in the world and it's the fastest growing region in the world .
Africa is also the most expensive place to send money to and trade with.
Talent is everywhere but opportunity isn't.
How do we bridge this divide with a sense of purpose?
Think about people living far away from their loved ones who are financially responsible and support them.
Imagine how you would feel losing 8-9% of your money through fees. How do we reduce the cost of sending money home through technology?
What about the future for businesses?
Think about those who are trying to do cross-border business from Africa outbound to the rest of the world?
Why is it so hard to trade today?
Why do people have to send money with other people physically or cash on planes?
How much money and time is lost while doing this?
What about the reliability of trade?
When payments are delayed, that means business is disrupted.
This costs everyone money.
It loses us trust with customers.
What about the future of work?
Think about those young TikTok influencers in Uganda who make amazing content, but can't get paid because they don't have Visa or Mastercards yet have mobile money?
NALA's true impact will be measured by the opportunities we create for Africa to trade with the world and the world to trade with Africa.
Your responsibilities in this role Manage the day-to-day running of compliance operations team, including customer onboarding, transaction screening and monitoring, and operational fraud management squads Create and maintain standard operating procedures, crib sheets and formal procedures used by the compliance operations team Develop key performance indicators to analyse and report on both team and process performance.
Use this data to identify areas where processes can be improved either through automation/AI, improved process design, better execution or better controls Work closely with product and engineering teams to create a roadmap of process and control enhancements Lead the roll-out of major changes to the compliance operations team, including measures to test how effectively these have been absorbed by the team.
Ensure that the key operational metrics are defined, and made available to the business.
Lead daily stand-ups and weekly recap meetings Collaborate closely with colleagues in the 2nd line of defence to ensure compliance operations processes effectively mitigate financial crime risk and deliver a best-in-class experience for our customers Support the global compliance leadership with both internal and external compliance audits and assessments.
Deliver ongoing training to team members within the compliance operations team.
Build a process for career progression within the compliance function Be the direct line manager for team leads in compliance operations Promote a positive workplace culture by embodying the NALA values, welcoming feedback, and encouraging others to do the same, thereby enhancing the overall employee experience.
Must Have Requirements Experience designing and implementing new processes and controls Very comfortable working with data Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including teams outside of the compliance function.
Excellent negotiator with the ability to bring teams and people with diverse ways of thinking together.
