Duties and Responsibilities
Participating in the formulation, development, implementation, monitoring and review of policies, laws and strategies in the animal health sector;
Provide technical advise to county government on veterinary services
Directing animal disease and pest control, veterinary diagnostic services, bio-safety and quality assurance of inputs and products, zoological services, hide and skins and leather development, veterinary public health, animal reproductive, extension and animal! welfare program
Participating and collaborating with approved local, regional and international bodies in the field of animal and trade.
Guiding the setting of animal research agenda and development, approving slaughter house designs and export/import request documents in respect to live animals, animal products, by products and inputs
Disseminate information on animal health, products and markets;
Organize diseases search, investigation, monitoring, mapping and outbreak responses
Carry out investigations on antimicrobial and acaricides resistance
Prepare and implement performance targets, work plans and budgets and prepare project proposal for resource mobilization; r
Plan and coordinate staff management and development.
Requirements for Appointment
Be a Kenyan citizen
Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Medicine (BVM) from a recognized institution;
Masters of science degree in any of the following fields; Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Surgery, Livestock Economics, Forensic science, Animal nutrition and Feed Science, Animal Genetics and Breeding, Clinical Studies, Veterinary Pubic Health, Livestock Production Systems, Poultry Science, Applied Veterinary Parasitology, Applied Microbiology, Comparative Mammalian Physiology, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Wildlife health and Management, Veterinary
Epidemiology and Economics, Animal Production or Aquatic Sciences from a recognized institution;
A minimum of ten (10) years relevant working experience in the public service or in a comparable position in the private sector
Be registered by Kenya Veterinary Board;
Certificate in Strategic Leadership Development Programme (SLDP) lasting not less than six (6) weeks from a recognized institution;
Demonstrate managerial, administrative and professional competence in work performance and exhibited a thorough understanding of county and national goals, policies, objectives and ability to relate them to proper management of veterinary services in the county
