Responsibilities
Within assigned authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following specific duties: Drive officials and authorized UN staff to and from various destinations in and around Nairobi and Nyeri.
Deliver and collect mail, documents, and other items to Government Offices, National Police Service and UN Offices.
Drive office vehicles for the transport of the UNODC/TOC programme and operations staff and facilitate VIP missions.
Records all trip-details in the vehicle movement log sheet, fuel consumption, defects noted, tire condition, vehicle tools and other particulars, report when vehicle is due for scheduled service, etc. and ensure that the relevant documents such as insurance are valid. • Adhere to the rules and regulations of the Kenya Highway Code and takes prompt action in the event of an accident.
Ensure availability of all the required documents/supplies, including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle
Make regular deliveries of parcels, documents, etc., between the UN office and other offices and institutions, e.g. Ministries, Embassies, Permanent Missions, etc.
Make minor purchases and collect urgent purchases from local suppliers as requested. Collect goods from the customs with due regard to customs regulations and formalities. May make or collect payment for goods.
Meet official personnel at the airport and facilitate immigration and customs formalities as required.
Deal effectively and tactfully with officials and visitors.
Take care of the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, check oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc.; perform minor repairs and arrange for other repairs and ensures that the vehicle is kept clean.
Log official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc.
Ensure that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident.
Apply good judgment in the context of assignments given.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
Driver training with a valid driver's license is required.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of experience as a driver with a safe driving record is required.
The minimum number of years of relevant experience is reduced to none for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.
Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans, SUVs and other kinds of motorized vehicles is required.
Experience in Kenya Government motor vehicle related processes and procedures is desirable.
Experience in applying the Kenya Highway Code is desirable.
Experience in Logistic functions is desirable. Work experience within the United Nations system or a similar international organization is desirable.
