Job Summary
We are looking for skilled and dedicated Emergency Nurses / Trauma Nurses to join our Accident & Emergency (A&E) team. The successful candidates will be responsible for providing immediate and high-quality care to patients with acute illnesses or injuries, from initial assessment and triage to stabilization and treatment. The role requires quick decision-making, resilience, and a passion for patient care in high-pressure situations. Candidates should be prepared to work closely with a team of healthcare professionals in delivering life-saving treatment.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Assessment & Triage
Quickly assess and prioritize patient conditions upon arrival.
Identify and manage life-threatening situations, ensuring prompt stabilization.
Determine the appropriate level of care and urgency for treatment based on clinical guidelines.
Emergency Care & Stabilization
Administer emergency medications, intravenous fluids, and oxygen as needed.
Perform advanced procedures, such as CPR, airway management, wound care, and fracture stabilization.
Monitor vital signs and provide continuous patient care during emergency interventions.
Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with doctors, paramedics, and other healthcare staff to coordinate effective treatment.
Provide clear communication during patient handover to ensure continuity of care.
Accurately document patient assessments, treatments, and interactions in medical records.
Patient & Family Support
Offer emotional support and information to patients and their families during emergencies.
Educate patients and their families on treatment plans, discharge instructions, and follow-up care.
Respect cultural sensitivities and provide care with empathy and professionalism.
Equipment & Safety Management
Operate and maintain emergency medical equipment, including ECG machines, defibrillators, and ventilators.
Ensure all medical instruments and supplies are ready, sanitized, and functional.
Follow hospital protocols, safety guidelines, and infection control procedures.
Crisis Management & Response
Respond effectively to critical situations, including trauma cases, mass casualty incidents, and resuscitations.
Participate in emergency drills and disaster preparedness activities to ensure readiness for unexpected events.
Assist in the transfer and transport of patients within the hospital or to other healthcare facilities.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education:
Diploma or Degree in Nursing (Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred).
Current and valid nursing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of experience in an Emergency Department or Trauma Unit.
Certification in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.
Certification in Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or equivalent is an added advantage.
