Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Fire Safety Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:
Conducts daily briefings and assign officers to various functions or posts.
Supervises staff and carries out inspections to ensure that officers on duty are discharging their functions appropriately.
Assists in the inspection and testing of firefighting equipment, hydrants, hose reels, foam inlets, and portable extinguishers.
Examines routine reports prepared by subordinates and certify their accuracy.
Assigns cases to investigators, recommending action to be taken; directs sensitive and/or complex investigations.
Ensure that used fire extinguishers are recharged, that all exits and emergency exits are not blocked or obstructed by regularly inspecting all emergency exits, and that aisles, walkways, and other passageways are clear at all times.
Makes recommendations to the supervising officer on operational matters.
Briefs officers under command of possible security threats and related operational plans.
Assumes control of specific areas as assigned during periods of heightened security.
Counsels, coaches and mentors' officers under command.
Provides input for the performance evaluation of security personnel under command.
Prepares written reports of all unusual incidents.
Makes recommendations on basic security operation.
Performs other related duties as required.
Education
Completion of high school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional training in security or military is required.
Job - Specific Qualification
Technical or professional certification in fire and rescue, hazardous materials, fire medical assistance and response team management is required.
Work Experience
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in all areas of the security operation within the UN Security Service, including investigation, physical security, personal protection, strategic and operational planning, fire prevention and suppression, emergency medical and hazardous material response, video imaging badge systems and methods of instruction or related area is required.
The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to three (3) years for candidates who possess a first level University degree.
General knowledge of procedures and regulations for fire-fighting operations is required.
One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is required. Knowledge in preparation of fire safety and evacuation plan for the UN or international setup is desirable.
