Job Purpose
The newly created role is to establish, lead, and manage the CcHUB Green and Sustainable Technologies Practice, which will promote innovation in green and sustainable technologies. This role will be responsible for setting the strategic direction (in consultation with the CcHUB Leadership Team), fostering an ecosystem that supports green tech startups through research, incubation, and acceleration, and securing investment to fuel these innovations. The Practice Lead will drive efforts to leverage technology for social change and African prosperity, positioning the practice as a cornerstone in the sustainable tech landscape on the continent.
Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a strategic vision (in consultation with the CcHUB Leadership Team) for the Green and Sustainable Technologies Practice that aligns with CCHUB's mission of fostering social change and African prosperity.
Ecosystem Support: Spearhead initiatives to support the green and sustainable technologies ecosystem, including conducting research, organizing events, and creating knowledge-sharing platforms.
Startup Support: In collaboration with the CcHUB Startup Support Unit, oversee programs and projects focused on the incubation and acceleration of startups working in the green and sustainable technologies space, providing mentorship, resources, and guidance to foster innovation and growth.
Carbon Credits Initiatives: Leverage expertise in the carbon credit market to assist startups in understanding, participating in, and benefiting from carbon credit systems. This involves guiding startups through the process of quantifying their carbon offset capabilities, navigating the carbon credit marketplace, and implementing sustainable practices that qualify for carbon credits to complement the practice's overarching goal of fostering green and sustainable technologies by adding a financial incentive for carbon reduction and sustainability efforts.
Investment and Partnership: Collaborate with investors and partners to secure funding for startups and projects within the practice. Evaluate and recommend investments directly in high-potential green and sustainable tech startups (through CcHUB investment vehicles).
Team Management: Build and manage a high-performing team dedicated to achieving the practice's objectives. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning within the team.
Advocacy and Community Engagement: Act as a leading voice in the green and sustainable technologies community, advocating for policies and practices that support the sector's growth and sustainability.
Impact Measurement: Develop and implement frameworks (in collaboration with the Research and M&E Teams) for measuring the social and environmental impact of the practice's activities and the startups it supports.
Qualifications
Key Skills /Qualifications
A Master's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainable Development, Business Administration, or a related field.
At least 7 years of intermediate-level experience in green technology, sustainability, or related sectors, with a proven track record of leading projects or initiatives that have made a significant impact.
Deep understanding of carbon credit market mechanisms, including both compliance and voluntary markets, alongside a comprehensive grasp of carbon offset standards and verification processes.
Experience in startup incubation, acceleration, and investment, preferably in the green tech space, is desirable.
Strong network within the green and sustainable technologies ecosystem, including startups, investors, and policymakers.
Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
