We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Librarian to join our cataloguing and acquisition teams. Reporting to the Principal Librarian Cataloguing/Acquisitions, the successful candidate will be responsible for accurately cataloguing library materials to enhance discoverability and access for library patrons, accurately verifying physical library stock to enhance reconciliation with the general ledger. This role requires knowledge of Cataloguing standards and classification systems, stock verification and organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
Key Responsibilities:
Catalog and classify library materials particularly thesis and dissertations, according to established standards.
Input bibliographic data accurately into the library management system to maintain up-to-date and reliable catalog records.
Conduct subject analysis and assign accurate subject headings to improve material discoverability.
Review, edit, and update existing catalog records as needed to ensure data consistency and accuracy.
Organize and maintain library stock to facilitate identification and retrieval of information resources.
Work closely with the cataloguing team to ensure smooth workflow and adherence to cataloguing standards.
Verify the physical stock of library resources to ensure the records in the library management system match the actual materials available.
Identify the correct book prices and update the price record where appropriate.
Identify and document missing books or resources, reporting any discrepancies to management for further action.
Inspect items for damage, wear, or deterioration, and recommend repairs, replacements, or removal from the collection as necessary.
Ensure that all library materials are cataloged properly, labeled correctly, and organized according to the library's classification system.
Prepare regular reports on the status of stock verification, including discrepancies and losses.
Assist with other library tasks as directed by the supervisors.
Qualifications:
Education: Degree in Library and Information Science or a related field.
Experience:Prior cataloguing experience in a library setting is preferred.
Knowledge:Familiarity with cataloguing standards RDA, MARC21, & LCC classification systems /acquisition processes.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in using library management systems (LMS) and computer applications
