Loisaba Veterinarian At Loisaba Conservacy

Details of the offer

Work closely with KWS veterinarians to receive training in and provide veterinary clinical care as needed for wildlife and occasionally domestic species on Loisaba Conservancy.
Manage and help develop a veterinary facility located on Loisaba Conservancy.
Under the guidance of Loisaba and Smithsonian leadership, collaborate with KWS, partners in the region (such as MRC) and international partners to support development of a conservation medicine research and training programme on Loisaba.
Where possible, participate in scientific meetings, develop scientific manuscripts and engage with colleagues and collaborators pursuing veterinary and wildlife conservation research questions in Laikipia.
Provide guidance and assistance to laboratory / field technicians, students, postdocs and others carrying out related work on Loisaba.
Assist with implementation of Wildlife Watch Health module.
Ensure all necessary permissions and permits are obtained where required.

Qualifications:
Degree in Veterinary Medicine from a recognised university.
Current registration with Kenya Veterinary Board and therefore ability to attain KWS-affiliated veterinarian status.
Fluent in English and Kiswahili.
Hold and maintain a Kenyan driving license.
At least two years post-DVM working experience, preferably with clinical experience of working with wildlife. Prior veterinary internship and/or residency preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (e.g., Word, Excel).
Enthusiasm for collaborating across institutions and countries to jointly pursue research topics
relevant to both academic and applied audiences.
Interest in living and working on a remote setting in Laikipia, Kenya for the contract duration.
A master's degree or PhD in veterinary epidemiology, medicine, pathology, or any other relevant field will be an added advantage.
Experience working with rhinoceros will be an added advantage.
Other preferred (but not required) qualifications and skills include: experience designing, organising, and managing field work; experience writing grants, scientific reports, and manuscripts; and experience designing and carrying out research projects
