Job Description: The Ocean Freight Specialist will oversee the coordination, management, and optimisation of all ocean freight operations within the organisation.
Reporting to the Logistics Manager, this role is responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient transportation of goods via sea, ensuring compliance with international regulations, managing shipping documentation, and negotiating rates with carriers and logistics providers.
The successful candidate will collaborate with internal teams, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and shipping partners to ensure the timely and cost-effective delivery of goods.
Key Responsibilities: Manage and coordinate ocean freight shipments from origin to destination.
Negotiate rates and contracts with shipping lines, freight forwarders, and third-party logistics providers.
Prepare and maintain all shipping documentation, including bills of lading, invoices, and customs paperwork.
Track and monitor the status of shipments to ensure on-time delivery and resolve any transportation-related issues.
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure proper inventory management, stock levels, and shipping requirements.
Provide updates and reports to stakeholders on shipment statuses and delays.
Monitor and comply with relevant regulations, including customs requirements and international shipping laws.
Coordinate with customs brokers to ensure smooth customs clearance processes for international shipments.
Manage and resolve any claims related to freight damage or loss.
Optimise the shipping process to reduce costs and improve operational efficiency.
Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
Qualifications and Skills: Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related field (preferred).
Minimum of 3 years of experience in ocean freight or logistics coordination.
In-depth knowledge of international shipping procedures, ocean freight terms, and customs regulations.
Strong negotiation and communication skills.
Proficient in logistics software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Ability to multitask and handle multiple shipments simultaneously.
Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.
Knowledge of hazardous material transportation is a plus.
