Requirements for Appointment:
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must:
Be in possession of a Diploma in Optometry or its equivalent qualification from a recognized training institution;
Be in possession of a Certificate in Computer Application Skills from a recognized institution; and
Be registered by the Kenya Council of Optometry.

Duties and Responsibilities
This is the entry and training grade for this cadre. Duties and responsibilities at this level will include:
Examinations of the eye for the purpose of detecting injuries, diseases or abnormality in the eye, refraction, fit contact lenses dispense optical appliances, including low vision devices and handling Ophthalmic equipment's. Work at this level will be carried out under the guidance and supervision of a senior officer.
