Job Summary
We are looking for a compassionate and skilled Pediatric Nurse to join our team in providing specialized care to children, from infants to adolescents, in our Pediatric Unit. The Pediatric Nurse will be responsible for assessing, planning, and implementing nursing care tailored to the unique needs of young patients while offering family-centered support. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in pediatric care and a genuine dedication to enhancing the health and well-being of children.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Assessment & Care Planning
Conduct thorough assessments of pediatric patients' physical and emotional needs.
Develop individualized care plans based on patient history, diagnosis, and treatment goals.
Continuously monitor and adjust care plans in collaboration with pediatricians and other healthcare professionals.
Medical Procedures & Treatment Administration
Administer medications, vaccinations, and IV fluids as prescribed.
Perform pediatric-specific procedures, including inserting IVs, drawing blood, and monitoring vital signs.
Provide supportive care to manage symptoms and side effects of treatments.
Family & Patient Education
Educate parents and guardians on child care practices, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
Offer guidance on managing pediatric health issues, growth and development milestones, nutrition, and hygiene.
Support families in coping with their child's condition and offer resources for additional care if necessary.
Developmental & Emotional Support
Provide a child-friendly, safe, and comforting environment to reduce stress and anxiety in young patients.
Use age-appropriate communication techniques to explain procedures and treatment plans to children.
Offer emotional support to both patients and their families during challenging situations.
Record Keeping & Documentation
Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, documenting assessments, treatments, and progress.
Ensure timely updates in electronic health records (EHR) and communicate relevant information during shift handovers.
Adhere to hospital documentation standards and confidentiality policies.
Infection Control & Safety Management
Follow strict infection control protocols to prevent the spread of infectious diseases in the pediatric unit.
Ensure all medical instruments, supplies, and toys are sanitized and safe for pediatric use.
Conduct regular safety checks and address any risks in the patient environment.
Qualifications & Requirements
Diploma or Degree in Nursing (Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred).
Additional certification in Pediatric Nursing is an advantage.
Current and valid nursing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in pediatric nursing or similar healthcare setting.
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred.
Strong knowledge of pediatric health, child development, and common childhood illnesses.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage children and families.
Ability to remain calm, patient, and flexible when working with young patients.
Competence in using electronic health records (EHR) and pediatric medical equipment.
