About This RoleAs a Research Manager at GiveDirectly, you will be integral to the success of our large-scale Cash Transfer project in Malawi—one of our primary initiatives. Your role will focus on providing research and evidence-based to drive effective project monitoring and evaluation and to enhance fundraising efforts.Reports to:Senior Research ManagerKey Responsibilities:Monitoring and Evaluation: Support ongoing project monitoring, evaluation, and initiate evaluations for non-experimental projects.Project Management: Oversee research projects from initiation to completion, ensuring quality and adherence to timelines.Survey Design: Develop and test quantitative surveys and qualitative interview guides; ensure the robustness of data collection instruments.Fundraising: Collaborate with the Fundraising and Field Operations teams to enhance funding bids through engagements with research partners and project funders.Data Analysis: Conduct data quality checks and primary analysis for non-RCT projects, providing statistical support to operational teams.Reporting: Generate and review high-quality reports for key donors and stakeholders.Literature Reviews: Conduct literature reviews and remain updated on relevant research findings.Presentations: Regularly update senior leadership on the progress of research projects.Stakeholder Management: Manage and maintain relationships with key internal & external research stakeholders.Knowledge Management: Maintain and update GiveDirectly's research databases and support various administrative research duties.Travel: A maximum of 1 week per quarter, visit the field team to check on projects, learn about the context, and provide any in person support necessaryCore Competencies And Experiences:Research Implementation: Skilled in both quantitative and qualitative research methodsResearch Analysis: Skilled in both quantitative and qualitative research methods, including familiarity with R, Stata, and SurveyCTO.Project Management: Proven ability to manage multiple large-scale projects, with effective risk management and stakeholder communication.Education: Bachelor's degree in Economics, Statistics, Development Studies, International Studies, or a related field. Advanced degrees are advantageous.Economic Development: Understand economic development dynamics and poverty reduction strategies.Communication: Strong ability to communicate complex evaluation details clearly to diverse audiences.Research Synthesis: Competent in conducting literature searches and summarizing complex findings into clear, non-technical language.Desired Qualities:Demonstrates GiveDirectly's core values and competencies, including emotional intelligence, problem-solving, and fostering inclusivity.Personal or professional experience in low-income or historically marginalized communities is highly valued.
