Job Summary
The overall purpose of this job is to offer pastoral guidance and oversee the pupils residing in the boarding section to guarantee their safety, good health, and overall well-being. Additionally, the role supervises the general maintenance and upkeep of the boarding house, as well as promoting discipline and order within the dormitories.
Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure that the school adheres to health and safety regulations by maintaining cleanliness, orderliness and a conducive environment for the students living in the boarding house;
Assist and guide students residing in the boarding house, by ensuring their safety and well-being while helping them adjust to boarding life;
Conduct weekly meetings with students to educate them on hygiene regulations, train them on how to make their beds, and emphasize the importance of time management;
Prepare and submit a requisition for cleaning supplies to the Matron for approval to maintain adequate flow of supplies and ensuring proper storage;
Enforce discipline within the boarding facilities by ensuring that students comply with school rules and regulations and take appropriate disciplinary measures when necessary;
Communicate with the dorm matron, support staff, and teachers regarding the welfare of students and any concerns that may arise;
Assist the administration in evaluating the needs of students residing in the boarding house and offer recommendations;
Maintain an inventory of all equipment, furniture, cleaning supplies or fixtures in the boarding house and report any faults;
Maintain general cleanliness around the boarding section, offices, staffrooms, and corridors;
Ensure the general health and well-being of students residing in the boarding house and provide appropriate medical attention when needed in liaison with the school nurse;
Ensure that students wake up on time, dress appropriately in school attire, and leave the boarding house on time;
Ensure tidiness in the boarding house by making sure clean clothes are neatly folded and put away and that there are no items left underneath the beds;
Handle emergencies such as medical issues, fire alarms, and other student safety concerns that arise in the boarding house;
Attend health, safety, and sanitation training sessions organized by the school in order to maintain and uphold the school's health and safety standards;
Any other responsibilities assigned to the job holder by the supervisor from time to time.
Qualifications
Diploma in Housekeeping or Institutional Management from a recognized Institution
Minimum of 3 years as a Matron in a Learning Institution
