Reports to: The COD.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise and mentor both students and staff in their area of specialization/expertise;
Lead research/innovation teams in area of specialization/expertise;
Provide strategic leadership in development of academic programmes and research activities in their area of specialization/expertise within the department;
Be a member of the departmental and School academic board to provide leadership in their area of specialization/expertise;
Departmental development: Teach and train in their area of specialization/expertise at the appropriate level;
University development: Mentor and develop teaching programmes and skills in their area of specialization/expertise;
The review and development of programmes in accordance with the CUE requirements and CBC/CBET compliance at both the School and Department level, as well as responding to issues raised by the regulatory body, through the Chairperson of the Department and School Dean;
Inputting grades into an online grade management system;
Research and innovation, solicit funding and develop research programmes and teams in their area of specialization/expertise;
Networking: Create networks with local, regional and international organizations in their area of specialization/expertise;
Academic publishing: conduct scholarly and academic publishing;
Input into the department budget development in their area of specialization/expertise for departmental development;
Identify and develop research/innovation products for income generation in their area of specialization;
Create linkages and partnerships;
Develop research and academic programmes;
Management and administration of examinations and assessments;
Offer career guidance and mentorship;
Perform any other related duty assigned from time to time; and
Any other duty as may be assigned by the COD.
REQUIREMENTS FOR APPOINTMENT:
For appointment to this position, a candidate MUST have:
An earned Doctorate degree (PhD) or equivalent degree in the specified specialization or related field from an accredited and recognized university; and be registered or registerable with the relevant professional body (where applicable);
b. A Master's degree in the relevant field from an accredited and recognized university (in special cases) with at least three (3) years teaching experience at the university level or in a research institute or in industry; and
At least three (3) years of teaching and research experience at the university level as a Lecturer or six (6) years Research/industry experience;
A minimum of thirty-two (32) publication points as a Lecturer or equivalent, of which at least twenty-four (24) should be from refereed scholarly journals;
Supervised at least three (3) postgraduate students to completion as a Lecturer or equivalent;
Registered with the relevant professional body (where applicable);
Ability to utilize Open, Distance and e-Learning (ODeL) systems;
Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter 6 of the constitution of the Kenya 2010.
