Perioperative Nurse At Excel Wise Consultants Limited

The Perioperative Nurse will provide skilled and compassionate nursing care across all phases of the surgical journey, from preoperative assessment to postoperative recovery. The nurse will work collaboratively with the medical team, providing patient care, administering medications, and assisting during surgical operations. They will monitor vital signs, manage emergencies, and ensure patient safety in line with clinical guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
Preoperative Care:
Conduct thorough preoperative assessments, evaluating patient health status and readiness for surgery.
Provide holistic care, addressing the physical, mental, and social well-being of the patient.

Emergency Response:
Respond immediately to medical emergencies, alerting the senior nurse and doctor for rapid intervention.

Postoperative Care:
Receive and monitor patients in the Post Anesthetic Care Unit (PACU), ensuring stabilization after anesthesia and surgery.
Administer prescribed medications and closely monitor for side effects or complications.
Ensure patients are stable and ready for transfer or discharge to surgical wards.

Surgical Assistance:
Prepare patients for complex surgical procedures, assist during surgeries, and provide post-surgical care.
Ensure all necessary supplies and equipment are ready for surgical procedures.

Routine Procedures and Monitoring:
Conduct safety checks, insert IVs, administer urinary catheterization, and change wound dressings as required.
Monitor and document vital signs, hydration levels, and diagnostic test results, seeking assistance when necessary.

Waste Management:
Adhere to proper clinical waste disposal procedures per hospital guidelines, ensuring safe handling of clinical and non-clinical waste.

Collaboration and Communication:
Liaise with surgeons, physicians, physiotherapists, and other medical professionals to update them on patient status and coordinate care.
Educate patients and their families about treatments, care plans, and expected outcomes, addressing any concerns or questions.

Customer Care:
Maintain a high level of patient satisfaction by ensuring excellent communication and compassionate care during all phases of their surgical journey

Qualifications & Requirements:
Education:
A diploma in Nursing
Advanced Diploma or Higher Diploma in Perioperative Nursing (KRPON).

Licensure and Certification:
Valid registration and practicing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

Experience:
At least 2 years of continuous clinical nursing practice with experience in surgical settings, including operating room or post-anesthesia care.
Recent experience (within the last 6 months) in providing direct nursing care in surgical cases or OR settings.

Skills:
Strong understanding of safety guidelines and protocols related to patient care, particularly in the perioperative setting.
Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing interventions effectively.
Excellent communication skills to interact with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
